It looks as if Archie may have turned over a new leaf when he offers Billy and Jay a home after Peggy throws them out of the Vic. But it soon transpires that this is no simple act of generosity, as Archie plots to torch the pub with his equally evil consort Janine, telling her: "We're not going to get caught. We're going to pin it on Billy."
Janine backs out at the last minute after she has second thoughts about setting Billy up – so a determined Archie goes ahead alone. After sneaking into the deserted Vic on Bonfire night, knowing the Mitchells are attending a local firework display, he heads down to the cellar and lights a fire, stoking the blaze with vodka
But Peggy arrives back early and Archie is forced to hastily extinguish the blaze, earning himself a kiss from a grateful Peggy, who mistakenly thinks he's her knight in shining armour.
Elsewhere, Denise accepts psycho Lucas's proposal of marriage despite Owen's warnings that he's a wrong 'un, and Jane turns to Masood for comfort after rowing with Ian over his refusal to adopt a baby.
